On our final day we went to a cafe for breakfast
and I had this pastry filled with a delicious kind of spiced tomato sauce.
It was kind of like a bareka (from Israel). Very good. Then we went
to the
National Gallery. I spent the morning looking at paintings of Jesus and reading all
their descriptions. They were quite interesting and informative, but I
still don't know who the third Mary that they talked about is.
Unfortunately, we had a plane to catch so we had to leave. We went to the
museum cafe for lunch and sat down, but when we looked at the menu there was
nothing good to eat so we got up and left. We wound up going to a pub in
Leicester Square. I had Bangers and Mash which is basically sausage and
mashed potatoes and a couple of Scrumpy Jacks. We also had a British
dessert that was like a sponge cake with raspberry sauce and whipped cream.
It was pretty good. Next we did some last minute souvenir shopping and
hopped on the metro to the airport. Before I got on the plane I picked up
some Smarties (or Smar-ies as they say in London) which are similar to M&M's,
but with an orange flavor to it and some Cadbury Chocolates at the airport
convenience store to take home. It was quite worth it; British chocolate
is delicious!
